Plot ZIP Codes on a Map

Paste a list of US ZIP codes and watch them appear as dots on an interactive map β€” or switch to the density view to see where they cluster. Failed lookups are listed so you can fix them.

Enter ZIP codes and press Plot. Each code is geocoded and drawn as a dot; switch on the density view to see clustering.

How to use this tool

1
Enter your ZIP codes

Type or paste up to 200 US ZIP codes, one per line or separated by commas. Anything that is not a 5-digit ZIP is flagged before plotting.

2
Plot them

Press Plot ZIP codes. Each code is geocoded with a live progress bar, and the map zooms to fit all found locations.

3
Switch views

Use the dots view for individual locations, or the density view to see clustering β€” circle size and color intensity grow with the number of ZIPs in each area.

4
Export your results

Download a CSV with ZIP code, coordinates, and place name for every successfully located entry.

What people use this tool for

Customer and lead mapping

Plot customer ZIP codes to see your geographic footprint and spot underserved areas.

Example: An e-commerce store maps 150 customer ZIPs to plan regional shipping hubs.
Service coverage checks

Visualize the ZIPs you serve and look for gaps between your dots.

Example: A home-services company plots its service ZIPs to decide where to hire next.
Real estate research

Map ZIPs from listings or comps to understand the spread of a local market.

Example: An investor plots rental listing ZIPs to compare neighborhood coverage.

How it's calculated

ZIP codes are geocoded through the free Zippopotam.us API (up to 200 codes per run, looked up a few at a time). Density view aggregates points into 1-degree grid cells, scaling circle area with the square root of each cell's count. Failed lookups are reported separately and never silently dropped.

Related tools and resources

Look up single codes with the ZIP code finder, turn any point list into a heat map, or plot custom markers with the marker map generator.

Frequently asked questions

How many ZIP codes can I plot at once?

Up to 200 per run. This keeps geocoding fast and stays within the free lookup service's fair-use limits.

Why did some ZIP codes fail?

Usually because the code is retired, mistyped, or very new. Failed codes are listed after the run so you can check and retry them.

How accurate are the plotted locations?

Each ZIP is placed at its postal centroid from the lookup service β€” accurate enough for regional analysis, but not a street address.

What is the density view?

Instead of individual dots, nearby ZIPs are grouped into grid cells shown as circles. Bigger, deeper-red circles mean more ZIPs clustered in that area.

Can I use this for non-US postal codes?

This tool is built for US 5-digit ZIP codes. For other countries, plot coordinates directly with the CSV to map tool.
