Marker Map

This tool builds a custom annotated map from your own markers. Add markers in two ways: type a latitude and longitude directly, or search for a place or address (powered by Nominatim, OpenStreetMap's search) and add any result with one click.

Every marker gets an editable label, shows a popup on the map, and can be deleted individually or all at once. When the map looks right, export the full set as a CSV (label, latitude, longitude) or as a GeoJSON FeatureCollection β€” both generated in your browser. Nothing is stored on a server, so export before leaving the page if you want to keep your work.

No markers yet β€” add one by coordinates or address search.

Address search uses Nominatim (OpenStreetMap) and only runs when you click Search. Exports are generated in your browser.

How to use this tool

1
Add markers

Enter latitude, longitude and an optional label and click Add marker β€” or search an address and click Add on any result.

2
Label and manage

Rename markers inline in the list, click any marker on the map to see its popup, and delete individual markers or clear them all.

3
Export your map

Click Export CSV for a spreadsheet-friendly file or Export GeoJSON for use in GIS and web-mapping tools.

What people use this tool for

Plan a road-trip itinerary

Search each stop by name, add it, and export the CSV as the trip's waypoint list for a navigation app.

Example: Map five national-park entrances for a two-week drive.
Collect field-survey points

Field workers can drop markers at observed locations by coordinates, label them with site codes, and export GeoJSON for QGIS.

Example: Log wildlife sightings with grid references during a survey day.
Make a simple location shortlist

Compare candidate venues or properties by marking them all on one map, then export the list to share with a team.

Example: Shortlist six warehouse sites and send the CSV to the logistics team.

How it's calculated

Markers are held in browser state as latitude/longitude/label triples. Address search calls the Nominatim search API (https://nominatim.openstreetmap.org/search) only when you click Search β€” never while typing β€” and shows the top 5 results. Markers render as Leaflet markers with popups. CSV export quotes labels containing commas or quotes; GeoJSON export emits a FeatureCollection of Point features with the label in properties. Nothing is persisted server-side.

Frequently asked questions

Are my markers saved anywhere?

No. Markers live only in your browser's memory for this page session and disappear if you reload or close the tab. Use Export CSV or Export GeoJSON to keep them.

Where does address search get its data?

From Nominatim, the search service for OpenStreetMap. The search only runs when you click the Search button, and results depend on OpenStreetMap's coverage of the area.

Can I import an existing CSV of points?

Not directly in this tool β€” but the heat map tool accepts pasted lat,lng lists, and the GeoJSON export here can be re-opened in the GeoJSON viewer.

What's in the exported files?

The CSV has three columns: label, latitude, longitude. The GeoJSON is a FeatureCollection of Point features with each marker's label stored in properties.name.
