Make a Map with a Legend
Create an annotated map where the legend builds itself. Drop color-coded markers, trace regions, and share the finished map with a single link β the recipient sees the same markers, regions, and legend.
Click the map to drop a marker with the label and color above.
No entries yet. The legend builds itself as you add markers and regions.
How to use this tool
Type a label and pick a swatch color. Every marker or region you add next uses that label and color.
Click anywhere on the map to drop a labeled marker. It appears in the legend panel instantly.
Switch to Draw region, click around the boundary of an area, then press Finish region to add it as a shaded, labeled entry.
Press Copy share link. The link encodes your entire map, so anyone opening it sees your markers, regions, and legend exactly as you made them.
What people use this tool for
Color each rep's territory as a traced region with their name in the legend, then share the link with the whole team.
Mark hotels, sights, and restaurants with different colors and share the annotated map with travel companions.
Show project sites, survey areas, or community resources on one shared, self-explaining map.
How it's calculated
Markers and region vertices are stored as WGS84 decimal degrees. Share links encode the entries as compact base64 JSON in a ?d= query parameter β no server storage is involved, so the map can only be as long as a URL allows.

Frequently asked questions
How does the legend get created?
Automatically. Each marker or region you add β with its label and color β is appended to the legend panel. Removing an entry removes it from the legend too.
How does the share link work?
Your markers, regions, labels, and colors are encoded into the link itself. Anyone who opens the link sees your exact map, with no account needed and nothing stored on a server.
Is there a limit to how many markers I can add?
There is no hard cap in the tool, but very long share links can be truncated by some browsers or messaging apps. For large datasets, consider the CSV to map tool instead.
Can I edit a map after sharing it?
Opening a share link restores the map for editing β you can add or remove entries, then copy a new link with your changes.
Do regions show their area?
Regions are drawn as shaded polygons with your label and color. If you need area measurements, trace the same shape in the map drawer tool.
