Frequently asked questions
How do I find a specific county?
Type at least two letters of its name in the search box and pick from the matches.
What is shown when I click a county?
Its name, state, and five-digit FIPS code.
Does this include Alaska and Hawaii?
Yes — all boroughs, parishes, and county-equivalents nationwide.
Why do counties look simplified at low zoom?
The 10m-resolution boundaries balance detail with fast loading; zoom in for crisper edges.
Can I use this to identify a county from an address?
For address-to-county lookup, the county finder (reverse geocoding) is more direct.
What is a county-equivalent?
Areas that function as counties but are not called counties — e.g. Louisiana parishes, Alaska boroughs, independent cities.
Is the map data downloadable?
The underlying boundaries are public domain US Census data via the us-atlas project.
Does it work offline?
No — the boundary file is fetched from a CDN on first load.
