Sales Territory Planner

This tool lets you sketch sales territories directly on an interactive map. Click to drop vertices around a region, then click Finish territory, give it a name, and the polygon is saved with its area computed automatically in square kilometres (and square miles).

You can draw multiple territories — each gets its own color, its own area figure, and a popup on the map — and the tool totals the combined area. Territories can be deleted individually. Everything stays in your browser, and areas are spherical-Earth planning estimates, not survey measurements.

Click on the map to add vertices. Finish a territory when it has at least 3 points — you will be asked for a name.

No territories yet. Draw one on the map to see its area here.

Areas are computed on the spherical Earth (WGS84 mean radius) from the polygon you draw — a planning estimate, not a survey measurement. Everything stays in your browser.

How to use this tool

1
Click vertices on the map

With vertex-adding on, click around the boundary of your first territory. Use Undo vertex if you misclick.

2
Finish and name the territory

Once you have at least 3 points, click Finish territory and enter a name — the area is calculated instantly.

3
Add more and compare

Draw additional territories the same way. The list shows each area plus the combined total; delete any territory you no longer need.

What people use this tool for

Divide a region among reps

Sketch candidate territories for each salesperson and compare their areas side by side for a fair split.

Example: Carve a metro area into four rep zones of roughly equal size.
Estimate service-area coverage

Outline the areas your branches or teams cover to see total coverage and spot gaps or overlaps.

Example: Map five depot service zones and check for uncovered postcodes between them.
Plan franchise zones

Draft exclusive franchise territories on a map and record their sizes before formalizing boundaries.

Example: Propose three franchise areas across a county with documented square-kilometre figures.

How it's calculated

Vertices are collected from map clicks as latitude/longitude pairs. Area uses the spherical-excess polygon formula on the WGS84 mean Earth radius (6,371.0088 km) — the same polygonArea routine as this site's area calculator — returning square kilometres, converted to square miles at 0.386102. Territories render as Leaflet polygons with auto-assigned colors. All state is client-side; nothing is uploaded or saved.

Frequently asked questions

How accurate are the territory areas?

Areas use the spherical-Earth polygon formula, accurate to well under 1% for typical sales regions — fine for planning and comparison, but not a substitute for a licensed survey where legal boundaries matter.

Can I save my territories for later?

Not in this version — territories exist only in the current page session. Take a screenshot or note the areas down before closing the tab.

What happens if my polygon crosses itself?

The area formula assumes a simple (non-self-intersecting) polygon. A figure-eight shape will produce a misleading area, so keep boundaries simple and undo stray vertices.

How many territories can I draw?

There is no fixed limit — each gets an automatically assigned color from a rotating palette. For readability, a handful of territories per view works best.
